Studio Scrunch is an artist-led studio inspired by making and mothering

The studio was formed by Willow Mitchell, an artist working in the fields of participation, inclusion and play.
Studio Scrunch is an experiment into how the transition to parenthood can provide the stimulus and impetus to create new and meaningful work and serve as inspiration for more sustainable and authentic ways of designing and creating, with, for and amongst the smallest and most curious amongst us.
Scrunching is tactile, impulsive, effecting, transformative, curling and unfurling. It’s a process, a moment, a mistake, a re-worked surface or idea. It’s a first act of influence a child has on the material world around them. And it persists as we imagine and re-imagine. It’s a space to test, to experiment, to collaborate and to relish the process.
SCRUNCHTIME, the core programme of Studio Scrunch, is a creative play session tailored for toddlers/pre-schoolers and their grown-ups. It’s a space to come together and share in the joy of open-ended hands-on activity. It’s an ode to cardboard and repurposed household objects, and a celebration of the collective moments that intergenerational, multi-cultural/lingual/sensory creative play can ignite.
